How to Join

MEMBERSHIP of the Social History Society is open to all interested individuals, not just professional scholars and students but also all those interested in social history in its widest possible application. Membership confers a number of benefits, including the opportunity to receive Cultural and Social History, the Journal of the Social History Society (four issues per annum), as well as access to information via the Society’s website, and regular electronic mailings, featuring news and Calls for Papers of the Society’s own annual conference, as well as other conferences of interest to members.

The Journal, now entering its fourth year, features a regular debate forum and also a regular postgraduate review essay, where postgraduate students discuss reading and sources they use in their postgraduate research. To join, fill in a copy of the membership form. An electronic copy of the membership form is provided below, which may either be submitted electronically or printed off and sent in hard copy to the Society’s Administrative Secretary, Linda Persson, at the address given below. However, we must stress that individual ownership can no longer be offered to individuals giving institutional libraries as their address. Institutional subscriptions to the journal may be obtained through our publisher.

Subscription Rates

From 2007, the subscription rate for Members worldwide is £40 per annum. The rate for Postgraduate members is £15 per annum. In order to qualify, students must submit with their membership form a letter with a university stamp certifying their postgraduate status at the time of joining. In order that members of the Society who are partners, living at the same address, do not have to have TWO copies of the journal, we have instituted a Partner rate, of £18, for Partner Members, enabling both to remain members of the Society with only one paying the full subscription rate. Partner Members may choose which name is on the mailing list for official receipt of the journal (but it is sincerely hoped that both will read it!).

We are pleased to inform you that as well as the long-established facility for paying either by standing order or by annual cheque, we are now also able to offer you the opportunity to pay by debit or credit card, via Paypal. Details of the different modes of payment are included below in association with the membership form.
