About the Society

Structure of the Society

The Social History Society was founded in 1976, by Professor Harold Perkin ( 11 November 1926 - 16 October 2004).

The Society is based in Lancaster, which acts as the administrative centre of the Society. Linda Persson is in charge of the daily running of the Society, receiving membership enquiries and forms, organising the Bulletins, despatching conference correspondence etc.

The Society has three officers and an executive committee. The Officers are elected by postal ballot and the elections are announced at the Annual General Meeting, held during the annual conference. Members of the executive committee are also elected by postal ballot, and the results are announced at the AGM. Anyone who has been a member of the Society for a year is eligible to stand for committee membership. The current list of officers and the executive committee membership are listed below.
